Map-Me

Plotting your values - please read the instructions below before proceeding to the mapping task.

---- please ensure you are using a laptop/desktop PC to complete this task ----

For this question you will be presented with a map of the Central Chilterns area. Included on the map are:

- The stretch of track under construction through the Chilterns (Blue)
- A 3km boundary around the track marking the project's case study area (Red)

You are asked to choose and trace out up to three natural areas (i.e. viewpoints, footpaths, picnic spots etc.) within the red boundary that are most important to you through some personal meaning or connection. Then, for each area marked, answer a few short questions about why you chose this location and how your values here have been impacted by loss of nature due to the ongoing HS2 construction.

- please ensure the points that you plot are within the red boundary-

Your participation:
- This task should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
- Participation is voluntary, you can exit at any stage. Unsubmitted attempts will be discarded.
- All responses are anonymous and stored securely in compliance with UK data protection laws.
-This study is independent and is not affiliated with HS2 Ltd., the UK government, or any other organisation.

If you have any questions about the survey or use of your data, please contact the lead researcher, Andrew Slaven, at ans116@aber.ac.uk.

By starting/submitting this survey, you confirm that you:

- Are aged 18 or over
- You understand and agree with the use of your data and consent to take part in all parts of the survey below.

Instructions:

1) Familiarise yourself with the map and zoom in and out as appropriate - you are able to toggle between 'satellite' and 'map' views in the top left corner.

2) Locate an area that is important or meaningful to you within the boundary drawn on the map. Once you have finished zooming in, turn the spray can on using the green button in the top right. Note you cannot zoom while the spray can is activated.

3) 'Spray' the area that is significant to you, trying not to overlap too much.

4) Turn the spray can off using the red button in the top right of the screen and answer the questions on the right hand of the screen.

5) The question is repeated three times, allowing you to select up to the three most important sites to you. If you only have one or two sites to plot, please feel free to skip the question repetitions.

Before you are shown the task, a few socio-demographic questions will be asked so that we can see how values vary across the population and also ensure that we have a representative sample. Note that as this mapping task is not linked to the questionnaire survey, some questions may be the same.
